Provincial Sports Wins and Autumn Glory

As fall sports wrapped up, many athletes from Burnaby Schools took away trophies and medals at the highest level of school sport competition.

At Provincials in Senior Swimming, Burnaby Mountain Secondary’s team came in first place with a record setting Open 200m Mixed Medley Relay. Burnaby North Secondary took home four medals and the championship trophy for the Mixed B 200M Free Relay race. Moscrop Secondary picked up 8 medals and placed 3rd overall for Girls AAA.

After squeaking in as a third zone entry in the AAA soccer championships, Burnaby North boys competed for bronze – ultimately placing 4th in BC and earning the Golden Boot award. Their impressive run was featured in local media outlet, Freshet News. Read it .

Several athletes earned a spot to compete at Provincials in other sports, including Alpha Secondary’s Boys and Girls volleyball teams. The girls placed 10th in BC in the 3A competition, while the boys finished 6th in the province in 2A.

In Grade 9 Girls Volleyball, Burnaby North’s team won the championship title, with Burnaby Mountain’s Girls team taking 2nd place.

Elementary schools enjoyed volleyball playdays hosted by high schools that culminated in a final competition. Taylor Park Elementary athletes were three-way champs, with their Boys, Girls and Co-ed teams bringing home hardware.
