IF THE FOLLOWING APPLIES TO YOUR CHILD, ÌýTHEN FORMS MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE ÌýFOR PRE-APPROVAL:

• The student is currently attending Grade 12 in a Burnaby public school, OR
• The student is new to a Burnaby public school this year and began after February 19, OR
• The student’s school is outside of the Burnaby School District (the student does not attend a Burnaby public school)

You will need to know your child’s Personal Education Number (PEN) and upload a number of documents during this process. Once you have your documents scanned (or in an image format), you can proceed with the pre-approval process.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION FOR PRE-APPROVAL:

1. Proof of birth date for the student (birth certificate, immigration documents, or passport – Canadian or otherwise).

2. ÌýProof of guardianship (parents’ or guardians’ as shown on long form birth certificate or other Ìý appropriate legal documentation such as landed immigrant paper or guardianship order granted by the courts).

3. Government Issued photo ID for the Parent/Guardian such as: Driver’s License, Passport, BC Services Photo card, PR card.

4. Proof of residency. The parent or guardian and student must be ordinarily resident in British Columbia. Documentation must include two items, at least one being from Category A.

Category A:Ìýproof of ownership of dwelling or long-term lease or rental of dwelling; legal documents indicating BC residence; parent or guardian government issued tax statement.

Category B:ÌýEmployment pay slip, Insurance statement, Utility bill, BC cable bill, Provincial driver’s license, Provincial registration of automobile, Canadian bank accounts or credit cards. Other official documents that indicate residents’ name and current address.

In some circumstances, schools may require additional documentation. Parents will be contacted if this is the case.

Please note that it is not the Burnaby School District’s policy not to share student or parent information with federal immigration authorities, unless there’s a specific case where the District may be required to do so by law.

• Copy of student’s most recent school marks (report card or transcript of academic record)
• BC Personal Education Number (PEN)
• Copy of student’s IEP (Individual Education Plan) if applicable

Personal Education Numbers can be retrieved from your current school in BC and are often included on your child’s report card. If you are not a BC student, please contact the summer session office at 604.296.6902
