More than 250 parents and caregivers attended a virtual presentation at the end of April about youth and social media.
Called Not So Different After All – Understanding Social Media Use and Strengthening Family Connections, the session built on efforts to support students with healthy digital habits and the tremendous interest last year in presentations to families on this subject.
The information evening featured the expertise of renowned Youth Specialist Madison Cameron from the Center for Trauma Informed Practices. During the presentation and question-and-answer session, Cameron shared valuable insights into popular apps, potential impacts of social media on youth, and practical strategies for parents and caregivers. This included ways for them to connect with their child about navigating the digital world safely and respectfully at home.
Next fall, the District plans to host sessions with Cameron for students, themselves, about healthy use of social media.
This work is part of broader initiatives and a series of supports from the District to help students lead healthy digital lives.
